The Pantheon

Rome, girl playing glasses

Near the Pantheon we did find an unusual street musician... this young lady was playing glasses with varying amounts of water in them.

She seemed happy to let us take her picture.

We also happened across another obelisk. The Romans loved Egypt's obelisks, so much so that there are more standing in Italy today than in Egypt. This one is the Santa Maria sopra Minerva. It originally stood in Sais (in Lower Egypt) about 580 BC. It was brought to Rome in about 300 AD and erected in front of a temple to Isis.

It was unearthed again in the 1600's and placed on its elephant base, a sculpture by Bernini.

Facades such as this one are also something of a trend in Rome. I wasn't able to figure out exactly what or where this place is.

But here's a closer look at the facade. The Roman numerals work out to 1665.
