The originals:
Here I lined up the photos by using 773 as the base image, and then manipulating the other photos to line up (more or less). I then stacked them using the trial version of Helicon Focus.
In this case I did the work myself in Gimp by clipping out the blurry bits of each photograph and then blending any rough edges.
Trying to let Gimp do the hard work by using Depth Merge. I'm not sure what Depth Merge is for, but apparently not for focus stacking.
